About The Senator's Wife

I started this blog on a whim thinking it would be fun to write about politics while my husband served in the OK State Senate. The jury's still out on that, but having a front row seat on the sideline of Oklahoma politics has been one big adventure.

WOW!

Afternoon Update!

This woman is my hero.  Seriously.  Nearly 7 million hits in less than an hour?!  Love her!
I saw a clip of this video last night on the news and was moved.  I even forced Thunder and Lightening to watch it this morning and they were mesmerized.  If Lightening will sit and listen to a Broadway show tune, well it must be captivating.  So much so that I almost forgot I had just kissed the Senator goodbye as he headed back to the Lion’s Den at the State Capitol. He had a tea party to go to………
Go get ’em honey, because I’ll be hanging out with this sensational British singer today!  It’s called stress therapy.
Enjoy!

The Senator’s Wife

P.S.  Just after lunch, this particular clip on YouTube had nearly 6 million hits.  I think I account for at least 10 of them.  Such a beautiful story.

The Senator reads…

It didn’t take long for the Senator to chime in with a list of his favorite magazines and reading material that he receives in the mail.  He gets a lot of mail.  So much mail that I don’t even want to know how he decides what is worth reading… or not.  I just don’t want to go down that road. Have I mentioned I try to avoid political conversations with the Senator?  I do, really I do, even though I am interested in what is going on down at the marble palace and I love, love, love knowing his opinion on things.

Anyway, his favorite reads came as no surprise to me, in fact, I probably would have picked them myself.
The Senator said he really enjoys reading Perspective, which is a magazine published monthly by OCPA (Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs).  Their website is www.ocpathink.org
He also mentioned he likes reading information from the SLC (Southern Legislative Conference) and the Heritage Foundation and a publication from the Heartland Institute he looks at from time to time called School Reform News.   Obviously, this one focuses on education reforms, but he claims they send him useful information on other topics as well. Their website is www.heartland.org
There are various other publications that the Senator will read, except on vacation when he is obsessed with reading all of the back issues of Vanity Fair.  I know, I know, for those of you who are friends with the Senator, the Vanity Fair thing is hard to imagine.  It could be a lot more interesting, though.  I mean, he could have a subscription to Newsweek!
Happy Monday!

Weekend Reading

I just love it when the Senator leaves piles of ‘stuff’ on my desk for me to read.  I am sure he thinks I will read all of it for him and submit a written report….and he can keep dreaming of that day!

I do enjoy all of the reading material, however.  Really, I do.  My favorites are the government magazines like State News, Governing and State Legislatures. These are put out by various entities that work with elected officials all across the country.  Some, like State Legislatures, take a liberal bent to solving problems while others such as Inside ALEC and The Ripon Forum, are more conservative in their approach. And that is strictly my opinion, of course, based upon whether the role of government is viewed as contributing more to the problem or a part of the solution.
Having said that, I really like them ALL for the sheer interest of reading about how elected officials across the country attempt to solve the crucial issues in their state.
There are some good ideas in these magazines.
If you have any desire to read about legislative issues from a national perspective, here are some websites of interest:
