About The Senator's Wife

I started this blog on a whim thinking it would be fun to write about politics while my husband served in the OK State Senate. The jury's still out on that, but having a front row seat on the sideline of Oklahoma politics has been one big adventure.

Just Because

This photo has absolutely nothing to do with anything, really, I just like looking at the Senator behind that desk.  It looks so official. Except for that smirk on his face which indicates he is about to say something mischievous. And if he isn’t going to say it out loud, then he was just thinking it…keeping those thoughts to himself.  Smart…VERY smart.

So, recently the Senator and I were at a lovely dinner hosted in a beautiful home of one of my favorite lobbyists down at the marble palace. I am really picky these days about what I attend, in terms of political functions.  I just am.  When the Senator was first elected I think I went to everything.  It was all so new and interesting and there were lots of people to meet.  And, now I don’t….go to everything.  I just pick and choose, probably because I don’t have a lot of free time, the kids have a lot of activities and I have sort of been there and done that?  Or, maybe I am just in denial.

Anyway, during the course of conversation that night, our lovely hostess asked what it was really like being married to a Senator….
Do I have to answer that?  I am sure there is a politically correct response to that question, but I didn’t feel like making something up.  Am I a bad person?  Really, honesty is the best policy, but I wasn’t going to go there either so I kept my thoughts to myself.  Which, in this case was a VERY smart thing to do.
Can you tell there are only five days left in the Legislative session?  Well, assuming their budget agreement holds….

Meet two of our very favorite pastors, Mark and Jennifer Crow.

Yes, the Senator has that deer in the headlights look that our son says he gets when he is really excited to see someone.  And he was…excited to see them.

Roughly seven years ago we stumbled into their church for a Wednesday evening service after a long day on the campaign trail.  Their church is located in the heart of the Senator’s district, and on that particular Wednesday evening the parking lot was full of cars and kids and looked like it would welcome some stragglers.
Our family loves attending services at this church.  The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the message is way beyond good.  In fact, sometimes we have been given so much food for thought that the car ride home is quiet while we each, individually ponder what has been said. But you don’t have to be in the neighborhood to worship there, just go to your computer and click on www.victorychurch.tv
The Senator likes Mark’s style.  He gets it and gives it right back to you- in layman’s terms.  For me personally, I love Jennifer’s singing voice, she has the voice of an angel. Don’t even get me started on the music…awesome.
Several sessions back, Mark was kind enough to come to the Capitol to be the Pastor of the week for my Senator.  He brought another pastor from his church with him and boy am I forever grateful to her. During our last campaign she dropped everything one day to pray with me.  It was an ugly campaign and the leaders at this church lifted us up in prayer.
So you can understand why the Senator was so happy to see them recently at the Capitol.  They are special friends who have touched our lives.
Oh, and they also have five children, one of whom paged for the Senator last year down at the marble palace.  That young man is going to run for Governor one day and win. Yep, you read it here first!
Love, the Senator’s Wife

Smile. And the world smiles with you…

I could say a lot of things about this photo….really, I could.  But let me ask you something. What do you think is going on here?

State of Emergency?  Funeral?  Natural Disaster?

You would never know that this was an actual press conference to talk about… yep, the positive accomplishments that have taken place this legislative session. Based on the facial expressions alone though, you’d think there had been a death in the family.  Seriously, look at those pensive faces.
I know these guys were aware of the cameras.  They ARE politicians and they did invite the media to their party.  So, I guess I’m just saying that the next time there is a press conference to talk about all of the progress being made in our great state, it might be wise to insert a little energy and enthusiasm into the mix. Smiles are contagious you know.
