About The Senator's Wife

I started this blog on a whim thinking it would be fun to write about politics while my husband served in the OK State Senate. The jury's still out on that, but having a front row seat on the sideline of Oklahoma politics has been one big adventure.

Adrenaline Rush

I love elections.  And, I love this photo of the Senator that was taken the day his opponent dropped out of the race.  It speaks volumes to me.

If the Senator were on the ballot, I would be five pounds thinner, losing hair and extraordinarily sleep deprived.  Adrenaline would be my constant companion.  I miss you adrenaline.  Come back and see me sometime!

I have written about some of the crazy things that happen during a campaign.  But, only some of them.  I am saving the good stuff for a book because it is ever so worthy of being published.  Unless you have ever been directly involved in a political campaign…. you have no idea how crazy it gets.  T-R-U-S-T me!  The negative ads you see on television are only the tip of the iceberg.  So much takes place behind the scenes that would make your jaw drop.

I do cherish the fact that we can hire and fire our elected officials at the ballot box, and I think we are going to see a lot of that today.   Peggy Noonan, one of my favorite pundits,  wrote a great article about the mood of the electorate and focused her attention on a particular congressional race in New Jersey.  I’ll be watching that one.  In the meantime, I am going to go vote… and you should too!

Political Observation

So, the Senator’s son is home sick and watching a re-run of the Gubernatorial debate from last week.  I’m not even going to comment other than the political fever hovering over the house has matriculated.

However,  he just said that he thinks in this particular race, (for Governor in Oklahoma) that it basically boils down to ideas vs. personality….adding that he believes one candidate has the better ideas while the other has a much better personality.

I’ll let you decide………..

Making a Difference

I just wanted to share with you what I think is the best campaign ad in support of an outstanding Oklahoma candidate for probably the most important elected position this cycle in Oklahoma: State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

I know, I know….I am getting all political.  But, Oklahoma is not known for it’s awesome public schools.  Yes, we have some schools that are blue ribbon winners.  However, they are significantly outnumbered by those which are not.  I won’t get into why I think the status of public education in Oklahoma is suffering, but it is not due to a lack of funds.  Education received roughly 56% of the state’s budget last year, and that is not inclusive of the millions of dollars in revenue generated from the state’s lottery system.  Seriously, money is not the issue.
Oklahoma has a choice this election cycle to vote for a candidate who has made significant positive changes to a broken educational system and touched the lives of many Oklahoma children. Clearly, she is making a difference.

This ad, the best in my opinion, reflects that.

Next Tuesday is an election day.  I would encourage you to get out and vote!
