About The Senator's Wife

I started this blog on a whim thinking it would be fun to write about politics while my husband served in the OK State Senate. The jury's still out on that, but having a front row seat on the sideline of Oklahoma politics has been one big adventure.

More from the great Salt Lake…

So, while I was in Utah I managed to do several things. For starters, I moderated a panel on moms and social media. I know, I know, I am still laughing at the irony. However, it was such fun and extremely informative. The panel was made up of two “moms” who are working professionals, one a PR professional and the other who uses social media to promote her company. The other two panelists were “moms” who blog….also known as, “mommy bloggers.” I am not so much into that phrase, but they blog beautifully about life as they know it and were terrific representatives of this growing industry.

There were so many take aways from this panel that I am still processing all of the information. They talked about the most effective ways to promote your business, how to safeguard your children and their stories online, networking with other moms, marketing your blog, protecting your privacy, twitter vs. facebook…..the dialogue went on and on until they cut us off by letting us know the banquet crew was ready to set up the room for dinner! Yikes.

I so enjoyed meeting this mommy blogger, Courtney from C. Jane! What a neat lady and such fun to learn she knows my BFF, Ree from the blogosphere. It truly is a small world.

Right before the panel, I was sworn in as the President of this organization, so if I look a little frazzled….it’s because I was.

It is an awesome responsibility to lead a 76-year-old organization that honors and supports moms! What a great thing. And, I was really glad that the Senator could tag along for some moral support.

He’s good like that 🙂

Utah

I am just back from a little stint in Salt Lake City. Actually, I went out there for an American Mothers convention and I have done this ever since I was named the National Young Mother of the Year in 2006. These conventions have been in different locations, from Bismarck, North Dakota and Lincoln, Nebraska to New York City and Las Vegas…and I have enjoyed seeing each new place and meeting all of the wonderful moms who are in attendance or being honored.

This was taken right after the new National Young Mother was named. Such a neat lady, pictured in between me and the immediate past Young Mother of the Year. Truly remarkable women.

This was our annual past National Young Mother of the Year photo! And, just so you know, we all agreed to hold onto the “young” in that title as long as possible. Who wouldn’t, right?

Meanwhile, my Senator managed to hang with the Governor of Utah. I think politicians naturally gravitate to one another…

I’m thinking they kind of look alike too………

Those were some of the highlights. There were more but I am still processing them…which is what happens when you surround yourself with amazing women for a long weekend!

Traditions

Every year, the night before Easter we invite friends and families over to our house for a pre Easter dinner of sorts. I don’t know when this became a tradition of ours, but it did and we wouldn’t trade it for the world. Lots of eggs are hidden in the yard for hunting, only now the eggs are filled with coins, cash and candy.  We usually orchestrate an egg toss or other crazy Easter games, and always the combination of delicious food and fun friends.  This year, many of us had given up things for Lent and agreed the evening would be the perfect time to enjoy the contraband.  Shall we say, it had been a long 40 days…

The adults stayed late around the table, discussing our different church traditions, Easter celebrations, summer plans…and, of course our kids, who at this point were chasing each other outside with flashlights.

Sadly, this is the only photo I have….but, I think it’s a keeper!

Enjoy!
