About The Senator's Wife

I started this blog on a whim thinking it would be fun to write about politics while my husband served in the OK State Senate. The jury's still out on that, but having a front row seat on the sideline of Oklahoma politics has been one big adventure.

The Lion’s Den

This photo was taken from the 5th floor of our State Capitol.  It is a beautiful view from up there.  You can see right up to the top of the dome and down into the reception areas of both Chambers which are located on the 4th floor.

The Lion’s Den is also located on the 4th floor.  This is my favorite place to hang.  All the lobbyists gather there.  It is like one big party.

People get married here and make announcements on the 4th floor. It is just that beautiful. Really.

Other times, various organizations set up display tables while some cater luncheons or receptions at the Den.
I call it the Lion’s Den, because that’s what it looked like to me during the Senator’s first Legislative Session.  The lobbyists, most of whom I did not know, looked like lions.  Hungry lions on the prowl.  Mama lions protecting their cubs.  Now, the Lion’s Den is just a funny term referencing the party that takes place out there from January through May.
And that party is now…OVER!

A Night at the Museum…

…or an afternoon at the Capitol!

Yesterday Thunder and Lightening took their friends to the Capitol after school.  This was not just an ordinary day, but it was the LAST day of school, so everyone was wired for sound.
The Senator took the girls into the Chamber because he is fun like that.

Except things were not “fun” on the floor, it was all business.  The boys and I watched from the Gallery….until they found more interesting activities.
Like roaming the halls.

And dancing in them.

Oh boy.

Yes, that is the Senator’s son.

We’re all glad the Senator was, uh, preoccupied.

Sine Die!
The Senator’s Wife

3-2-1…

…countdown until this Legislative Session is over. At the Capitol, they like to say Sine Die in reference to this momentous occasion.  And if you live in Oklahoma that would be pronounced sign -ee- dye .  Now,  if you’re a lawyer, Catholic Priest or had to take Latin in school like me, you know this should really be pronounced si-nā-ˈdē-ˌā , and you really grimace when you hear the Latin language butchered.  Latin is so…  yeah, never mind.

Maybe, just maybe I thought people at the Capitol were pronouncing it that way as some sort of joke or parody on the actual Latin phrase.  They can be fun like that, but I learned quickly that this was not intentional.  “Sign-ee-dye,” was simply the spoken word down at the marble palace….probably because it’s more fun to say it that way?

And now my Latin background haunts me…really. What’s up with that?

This is also the last week of school for Thunder and Lightening.

Yeah, he’s ready.

She’s not.  Go figure.

And just like the Legislature, anything that is important has waited to be preformed, tested and showcased until…just right….about…now!  Cramming is a universal sport.

When I figure out how to cram myself into two locations at the same time, I’ll let ya know.
